Report: Ukraine can cut transit suit against Gazprom to $2 bln

KIEV, Jan 21 (PRIME) -- Ukrainian energy holding Naftogaz Ukrainy is ready to reduce a transit suit against Russia’s Gazprom to U.S. $2 billion from $12 billion if a transit contract covering a period from 2020 is signed, CCO Yury Vitrenko said, as cited by newswire Ukrinform.

“In this case, our suit will only amount to $2 billion instead of $12 billion. Because $2 billion is still the spending which the current deal does not cover with its tariff. Even without an accelerated payment for the gas pipeline system,” Vitrenko said.

Naftogaz Ukrainy submitted an $11.58 billion lawsuit against Gazprom to review the transit tariff since March 2018 to the Stockholm arbitration court in July. Vitrenko then said that the litigations over the case can last for six years.
